The Backcountry Weekend - Information for Backpackers

You must register with park staff at the Bell's station before you head out on your backpack trip.
One night stay: You can arrive any time on Saturday, spend the night, and leave any time before 5 p.m. on Sunday.  The fee for one night is $55 per vehicle.
Two night stay: You can arrive Friday afternoon, spend Friday and Saturday nights, and leave any time before 5 p.m. on Sunday. The fee for both nights is $65 per vehicle.
On Friday, the entrance gate at Bell's Station will be open from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. for backpacker registration.  After you register, you can drive your vehicle into the backcountry and park anywhere along Kaiser Aetna Road (the main dirt road) between Center Flats Road and County Line Road.
On Saturday, the entrance gate at Bell's Station will be open at 8:00 a.m.  You must register to backpack at Bell's Station, and you can park anywhere along Kaiser Aetna Road (the main dirt road) between Center Flats Road and County Line Road.
Be sure to park your vehicle at the edge of the road in a spot where it won't block the flow of traffic.
There is no limit imposed on the number of people in a vehicle, and carpooling is encouraged.
On Friday and Saturday, a shuttle van will be available on Kaiser Aetna Road to transport people to destinations between Center Flats Road and the Orestimba Corral. The shuttle will also be running on Sunday to carry people back to their vehicles.
Visitors must be in their vehicles and heading out of the park by no later than 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
