MST Mount Stakes Trail (Orestimba) 4.40 H E 04/13/21 Mt. Stakes Trail (from Red Creek Rd. to the signpost where it begins steeply descending north to Pinto Creek). There is no discernable "junction" at Red Creek but if you know the spur ridge that the trail is on you will see evidence of an old road most of the way. The fire has made it more visible. You just follow the spur ridge up, taking the path of least resistance. That usually means staying on the old road but sometimes not, since the road is blocked by growth or deadfall at times. From the unnamed summit down to the junction with the unnamed trail it's wide open. The unnamed "trail" down to Robison Creek, as opposed to the continuation of the Mt. Stakes Trail to Pinto Creek, is definitely the easiest way down. It was clear almost the entire way down, with just a short section of pushing through some unburned chaparral. You want to keep a close eye on your map as it's not obvious when you need to turn due south and drop down off the spur ridge. (Posted by Sue V702 as reported by visitor Scott F.)

PIT Pinto Creek Trail (Orestimba) 2.30 H E 04/20/19 Coming down from the Mt Stakes Trail, backpacker Scott F reports:  "The Pinto Creek Trail to Robison Creek was extremely difficult. It took us about 4 hours to travel a little over 2 miles down the "trail"! At times there was an obvious sign of an old road, and there were even stretches where we walked on the road relatively free and clear. But they never lasted long. The road either disappeared or became overgrown with shrubbery, including much poison oak. We did a fair amount of traversing the very steep walls of the canyon to find a path, only to find it very difficult to get back down to creek level. Once we had to lower our packs to descend safely. One of the worse sections was where the trail climbs the southwest side of the canyon wall and then descends back down to the creek in a ravine. The climb was relatively OK, but the descent was choked with all sorts of growth, requiring steep traverses and bushwhacking both. I'm sensitive to poison oak and by now I can spot and avoid it almost instinctually, but there were times when we had no choice but to just barge through it. Anyway, when we finally emerged into the Robison Creek valley we were relieved!" (Posted by Paul V708)

RBT Robison Creek Trail (Orestimba) 5.59 H E 04/13/21

Robison Creek Trail (from the unnamed trail to Orestimba Creek Rd.) is mostly fine; it disappears for a bit when the creek valley narrows, requiring pushing through some brush. This is shortly before it leaves the creek and climbs above it to the north. After leaving the creek the trail is on an old roadbed and is clear the rest of the way, with just a little deadfall. (Posted by Sue V702 as reported by Scott F.)

RMT Robison Mountain Trail (Orestimba) 2.62 H E 08/25/18 Park visitor Hartmut W reports "for the most part it's clear; a few parts are overgrown, but easy to get around. The trail is not visible in most parts, but the old trail followed the ridge line and is more obvious looking from the top down. No sign exists at the junction with the Rooster Comb Trail. At the top, after the junction with Murphy Trail, the trail becomes heavy overgrown with dense brush and impassable, until finding a way around the brushy area." (Posted by Paul V708)

SST Sada's Spring Trail (Western) 0.06 H B E 03/28/21

Large tree trunk, at least 2 ft. diameter, blocks the trail about 20 ft. from the spring. Between that tree and the spring the trail is eroded and badly side-sloped. SPT Springs Trail (Western) 1.31 H 07/17/21 Open and clear. Problems at the small bridge near Blackberry Spring. At least three boards near the center of the span have been forced up and off of the beam, and one of those boards is dangling over the downstream beam. The third eastern-most bench is dilapidated and should be replaced. That's the one that is some distance off the trail, looking south, away from the trail, from the top of a slope.
