Headquarters Visitor Center Interpretive Room

mural01Our downstairs interpretive room (located directly beneath the main Visitor Center) has several interesting natural history exhibits.  The room is open for evening programs on Saturdays at 8 p.m. during the spring and summer months.

You may find the room locked at other times (especially when we're low on staff), but if the Visitor Center is not too crowded and you see more than one person in uniform, you might ask if someone can be your guide to the downstairs room.  Your guide might be able to tell you what sort of animal tracks are carved in the benches and help you identify the birds whose silhouettes float above your head.

A beautiful landscape mural covers one large wall in the room.  Painted by an artist (who's also a zoologist) the mural depicts the relationships between grassland plants and animals in the park.

Also on display are several life-like freeze-dried animals and photographs of wildlife in the park.
