PIT Pinto Creek Trail (Orestimba) 2.30 H E 04/20/19 Coming down from the Mt Stakes Trail, backpacker Scott F reports:  "The Pinto Creek Trail to Robison Creek was extremely difficult. It took us about 4 hours to travel a little over 2 miles down the "trail"! At times there was an obvious sign of an old road, and there were even stretches where we walked on the road relatively free and clear. But they never lasted long. The road either disappeared or became overgrown with shrubbery, including much poison oak. We did a fair amount of traversing the very steep walls of the canyon to find a path, only to find it very difficult to get back down to creek level. Once we had to lower our packs to descend safely. One of the worse sections was where the trail climbs the southwest side of the canyon wall and then descends back down to the creek in a ravine. The climb was relatively OK, but the descent was choked with all sorts of growth, requiring steep traverses and bushwhacking both. I'm sensitive to poison oak and by now I can spot and avoid it almost instinctually, but there were times when we had no choice but to just barge through it. Anyway, when we finally emerged into the Robison Creek valley we were relieved!" (Posted by Paul V708)

RCR Red Creek Road (Orestimba) 10.46 H E V 03/01/20

Park visitor Hartmut W reports:

1) From junction with Orestimba Creek Road through Paradise Flat down to Red Creek (2.6 miles):   The road is clear and easy to follow.

2) From Red Creek Road meeting Red Creek to junction with Robison Creek Trail / Chapparal Trail (1.7 miles):  Red Creek Road soon disappears and there is not always a visible trail to follow along Red Creek, but the stretch is clear. Red Creek has still many pools through the narrows.

3) From junction with Robison Creek Trail/ Chaparral Trail to Hatch Spring:  Sections of the road where it follows the creek are pretty much non existent. Some use trails /animal trails remain. Couple of creek crossing require bushwhacking through branches, berry vines and over fallen trees. Sections of the road above the creek remain, blocked by 3+ fallen trees and narrowed by land slides, outer edge eroded at places. Passable for hikers only (not for vehicle or horse).

4) From Hatch Spring to junction with Mt. Stakes Trail:  One tree down and blocking the road in the section where the road leaves the creek bed. But easy to step over.  Visible spur trail / tread through the grassy area to junction with Mt. Stakes Trail.

5) Red Creek Road from junction with Mt. Stakes Trail up to County Line Road: Mostly clear, few small chamise and Yerba Santa bushes growing in the middle of the road. Passable for a vehicle.
